Production Support - Linux Systems Administrator Newton, MA
The Production Support - Systems Administrator will hold the primary
responsibility for the Production Environment (PE) from both a strategic
and tactical perspective. The focus will be on the OS and application
layer. The PS-SA will be heavily involved in project related work as
well as break & fix interrupt driven work as it pertains to the
Operating System and application. The PS-SA will maintain an on-call
escalation position supporting the Operations Center analysts in a 7X24
configuration. They will carry the overall responsibility of ensuring
that consistency, stability and good health exists at all times within
the production environment. PS-SA will be responsible for accepting
production code from QA and rolling it into production. The PS-SA will
work with analysts and development to trouble shoot and solve issues
with production code.
Responsibilities
? Architect, install, and maintain production systems.
? Maintain and implement servers and storage devices, disk layouts, file
system configurations, and OS to support specific applications.
? Troubleshoot and resolve OS and application issues within the
production environment.
? Responsible for documenting configurations and writing deployment plans.
? Responsible to train and support junior analysts.
? Testing, scheduling and stalling patches and upgrades.
? Testing, developing, and maintaining server and OS Layer standards
throughout the production environment.
? Own and operate all support related utilities and software.
? Be responsible for a series of reports on a daily, weekly, monthly and
quarterly basis.
? Prototypes and certifies standard hardware, operating systems, storage
and third party applications to support the production environment.
? Review third party or open source technology as needed and apply to
the production environment as appropriate.
Experience
? BS degree, and 7 plus years experience preferred.
? 5 years of Linux administration experience, preferably Red Hat or
similar knock off (CentOS).
? Languages: Shell scripting experience necessary, Perl preferred.
? Should have experience installing, monitoring and maintaining
applications in a 7x24 production environment.
? Should be familiar with standard networking protocols.
? Experience within a start-up environment is preferred.
? Ideal candidate would be motivated and able to assume team lead role
should the opportunity arise.

? Able to work independently and come up to speed quickly on new
technologies.
? Team player who exhibits good communication and interpersonal skills.
? Ability to thrive within a team environment.
? Ability to document standards and implementation of new technologies.
? Must be customer focused / strong interpersonal skills.
In the best of all worlds the right candidate would: 1) be close to guru
level in Linux. 2) need to be completely hands on. 3) have experience at
a high volume internet site. 4) know pretty much all there is to know
about web servers, DNS, mass e-mails, content delivery, disaster
recovery, general internet operations.
