I'm sorry we were unable to help you get the official built-in Fedora
Core driver for your sound card working. Note that since you have
opted for a non-Fedora Core provided driver, you will now have to
install a new third-party alsa-kmdl package from the ATrpms repository
everytime a new Fedora Core kernel update is released.

ALSA is a part of every Fedora Core release. It isn't packaged
separately--it is part of the standard Fedora Core kernel package. It
should "Just Work". Since it didn't just work, would you mind helping
us out to figure out why?

Standard Fedora sound driver for your sound card (two kernel versions
shown here):

$ rpm -ql kernel | grep emu10

/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2798.fc6/kernel/drivers/input/gameport/emu10k1-gp.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2798.fc6/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1
/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2798.fc6/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1-synth.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2798.fc6/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2798.fc6/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1x.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2849.fc6/kernel/drivers/input/gameport/emu10k1-gp.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2849.fc6/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1
/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2849.fc6/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1-synth.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2849.fc6/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.18-1.2849.fc6/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1/snd-emu10k1x.ko

/etc/modprobe.conf:

alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1
