What happens when you use system-config-soundcard (On the GNOME menu 
as System->Adminstration->Soundcard Detection)?

Ok, so none of ALSA is loaded at the moment.

This should be supported out-of-the-box on Fedora Core.

OSS/Free in the Linux kernel is obsolete and there is no reason to use 
it anymore.  I have no experience with the commercial version of OSS, 
since I have never had any need to use it.
